How do the stories we tell ourselves define us? What do we want to leave behind for future generations? And how can all of that fit on a playlist that’s currently over 15 billion miles from Earth, destined to outlive the planet itself? These questions, and the legacy of the Voyager Golden Records that inspired them, are at the core of Sam Sentivan’s George Slick Fellowship project All Worlds, All Times.
The George H. Slick Fellowship and Grant is a prestigious program that supports Strath Haven High School students who have a desire to reach the most advanced levels in the arts including music, visual art, theater, dance, photography, and media arts. This Fellowship, which is awarded to one or two students at the end of their freshman year, allows them to work toward mastering their art over a two-year period and culminates in a program in the spring of their junior year.
Upon winning the fellowship in 2022, Sam set out to compose the music for the project, which resulted in more than 100 demos over 18 months, with 9 final songs selected to be the core of project. As the songs evolved and came into focus, Sam launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a vinyl pressing of All Worlds, All Times. After hitting his goal in less than 72 hours, it was time to get to work on the final recordings.
Sam recorded All Worlds, All Times at home and in the music wing of Strath Haven High School, playing all instruments with the exception of help from friends Sarah Ventriglia and Wendy Chen on strings and Quinten Taylor on horns. The sessions were a 4-month marathon of weekends and late nights squeezed in between high school classes and a busy marching band season. The album was mastered and pressed in Philadelphia by Alex Santilli at Spice House Sound (Japanese Breakfast, Dr. Dog, Alex G) and Softwax Record Pressing.
With the album recorded and pressed, it’s on to the next and final phase of the project — a live multimedia performance of the album at Strath Haven High School at 7:30 PM on May 31, 2024. The show will feature video, samples and programmed lighting designed to add a new dimension to All Worlds, All Times. This show is free and open to the public.
